Aparigraha & Letting Go.

Aparigraha.

It loosely translates to non-greed and non-attachment.

Letting go.

It is the last of the Patanjali’s moral guidelines by which to live with regard to our relationship with ourselves and the world around us (Yamas).

I moved back to the Upper Valley from Cambodia just over five years ago. A bright-eyed, young yoga teacher looking to soak up as much teaching experience as I possibly could. I researched local yoga studios and decided that Upper Valley Yoga seemed like the best fit. I attended a class, met the owner of the studio, and the rest was history.

My time teaching at UVY has been so rewarding and has taught me so much. I have worked with incredible yoga instructors, survived pivot after pivot as we all navigated a global pandemic, and (most importantly) I’ve been able to connect with the best group of students a gal could possibly ask for.

In the same five years, I’ve had countless other teaching gigs and at least three other non-yoga jobs. But my classes at UVY have been my constant. My anchor.

This Friday, I am teaching my final two classes at the studio as I will likely be moving on from the Upper Valley in the coming months in order to enter a new chapter.

It is so very bittersweet.

One of the greatest lessons that I’ve learned in the past five years is that having a daily yoga practice doesn’t necessarily mean rolling out your mat and practicing the physical poses (asanas) every day.

We can live our yoga. Breathe our yoga.

And so, instead of feeling too sad about leaving behind my cherished classes, students, studio, and co-teachers, I am looking at it as an exercise in practicing Aparigraha. Non-grasping. Letting go.

But before I get ahead of myself, I want to invite you all to join me for either (or both!) of my final classes at the studio. One of the perks of these weird pandemic times is that you can now join these classes in person (at Upper Valley Yoga in White River Junction, VT), on Zoom, or any time before midnight via recording. The schedule is as follows:

Friday 6/24 ~ Mixed Level Flow, 12-1pm
Friday 6/24 ~ Slow Flow, 4-5:15pm

While letting go is not always easy, I am trying to remember that I am not moving on from my experience at Upper Valley Yoga, but rather, moving forward with it.

Hope to practice with you on Friday.
